Stained Glass
What most people call stained glass is really art glass, colored glass or leaded glass. Stained glass is an image painted on glass. Artists will paint one color on a piece of glass in reverse. Then the glass placed in a kiln and heated to a certain temperature and cooled. If the glass does not break the next color of paint is applied the glass is heated and cooled. This process goes on until the image is complete. The name "stained glass" has grown to include windows made of colored glass, beveled glass, and painted glass. We do not paint glass panels but it is possible to have them made and we can repair the window.
Feature 1
The center of this window has an image of a bible painted on the glass. The whole window is considered stained glass even though only one piece of glass is painted.
Feature 2
Someone had thrown a bottle through the window and four pieces of glass were broken. Tape is holding a new piece of glass in place while we cut and fit the others. It is very difficult to repair a window while it is still in place. Most often it can't be done and the window has to be removed to be repaired. Here, the damage was small enough and the lead lines are mostly vertical so we were not fighting gravity too much.
Feature 3
We replaced the four pieces of glass. This is the window finished.
